ABOUT

This is a hideaway for likeminded creatives seeking an intimate experience with other artists to awaken their connection to their work, their clients and their passions. Our goal is not simply to teach, but to arouse new ideas and concepts; to have you leaving with a desire to forge new paths.

Over Yonder is a hideaway, tucked between the coast of Washington and Olympic National Park.  We'll be spending 5 days and 4 nights discussing what we've learned from our pasts and ourselves to bring out the heart in our work and in our clients. We're going to get together in the mountains and create some really wonderful, maybe weird, definitely moving artwork. This is your invitation to come collaborate and learn with us.

STYLED SHOOTS

WE want do to more than just tell you how we connect and interact with our clients, we want to show you. we'll be having multiple live styled shoots, showing you how we connect with a client on an emotional level, allowing them to show a piece of themselves.

Q&A

this is an open and casual forum. we'll spend some time talking about our own pasts as creatives, how we got to where we are, and where we'd like to see ourselves go. we've all made mistakes and strides bringing us to where we are today.

there are no secrets, no pages left unturned. We want to share with you all the wonderful things that bring us into this incredible job, craft and lives we've built. These conversations will take place during talks, during shoots, at breakfast, dinner and around the fire; we're all hidden away for a little bit.

HOW TO SUBMIT // PRESENTED BY JUNEBUG WEDDINGS

We have something a little different in store, as one of our featured teachers is the executive editor of Junebug Weddings. Nicole is going to be speaking on what blogs look for from photographers when submitting, how to use past, present and future weddings to book more work and why submissions are an important part of your business. This is the first time a major wedding blog has come to a smaller intimate workshop and we're so excited for the experience everyone can get out of this.

Cody HArris

I'm a huge advocate of education and pushing myself and others to reach their full potential. I find meaning in the fleeting moments and often rely on honest connection to create meaningful photographs. I pray for wind and overcast days for shooting and thrive on finding love and solitude within that chaos.

Twyla Jones

I am obsessed with beautiful light and looking for magic everywhere. I focus heavily on creating environments that foster meaningful connections between my subjects. It is important to me that the emotions I am evoking to tell a story are actually being felt. It is my desire to create photographs that do more than serve as proof that you existed, I want to show that you lived passionately and loved madly.

Kyle WilsoN & STEPHEN RAMSDEN

We are wedding & portrait photographers based in Seattle, WA. and the two bearded halves of Hinterland Stills. Our photos are a reflection of the intersect we find between genuine moments and a heavy love.  We seek couples who have wandering hearts and adventuring souls.

Hi! We’re Grace and Jaden. Wedding + engagement photographers, and cinematographers, professional pizza eaters, and full-time adventure seekers. We live in the great Pacific Northwest with our two crazy dogs! We love what we do, but we don’t get caught up following industry trends, we never take ourselves too serious, and we’re constantly thinking outside the box.

NICOLE SELIGMAN

I get to do my literal dream job every day as the Executive Editor of Junebug Weddings. Connecting couples with talented artists who celebrate and capture their authentic love is more than my day job, it's my passion. I am the official Junebug sap, weeping at first looks, engagement giggles, and exceptional images on a regular basis. When I'm not searching for the most visually and emotionally stunning weddings in the world, I run a body positive style blog and co-host a pop culture podcast with my boyfriend. Cats, breakfast food, and newlyweds caught mid-belly laugh are the way to my heart.

Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.
